Today's Prompt: TSIS, "The Art of Metacommentary"
For this activity you are going to revise your Writing Exercise Six to include metacommentary. Please refer to Chapter Ten in your They Say/I Say textbook for more information on metacommentary. You will need to add three sentences to your document contextualizing the three quotes you were required to include. To do this, un-submit your Writing Exercise Six submission so that you can add more text. Then, using red text, add "meta-commentary" to your submission. The text you add could include:
- Some text offering your assessment of the political stance of each source. One approach to take with this is to do some background research on who each of the three commentators are: look up their Wikipedia page, for example. Another approach might include adding a comment that expresses your informal view of the quote--almost like an actor making an aside in a play. Lots of different things can be described as "meta-commentary," so there may be other ways of adding meta-commentary beyond what is suggested here--see Chapter Ten for suggestions.
- Make sure that each of your quotes is smoothly integrated into a sentence of your own, following proper protocol for quoting. Refer back to Chapter Three in They Say/I Say for more information.
- When you are done with your revisions, please re-submit your revised Writing Exercise Six submission--I will change the due date so that it will not be marked as late.
